Massage therapy can make a real difference to your life and well-being, no matter what your aches, pains, concerns or injuries are.

It involves the manipulation of soft tissue like muscles, tendons and ligaments – and is designed to restore normal functional activity to any of these tissues that may be experiencing problems or imbalances.

We cater to our client’s different needs – offering a range of massage services including remedial and sports massage therapy.

What you can expect from us

Whether it be a home visit or clinic appointment, you can always expect a warm welcome and professional service at Edge Massage Therapy. Appointments are purposely spaced apart so you never feel rushed and, most importantly, so we can give you our full attention.

On your first treatment we will talk through your individual symptoms and concerns with you in detail, as well as what goals you would like to achieve or where you would like to be following your treatment(s).

Each treatment thereafter will then be adjusted according to your presenting symptoms and needs. We will also continuously assess and monitor your progress, tailoring our service in line with this to ensure the right treatment is delivered.

Remedial massage

Remedial massage is a deep soft tissue treatment used to address the individual’s specific problem by using a range of hands-on techniques to make changes (either superficial or deep) to the soft tissue layers. The focus is to work the layers of muscle tissue and tendons – restoring functional movement and encouraging postural change through the release of muscle tension and reparation of the tissue.

Soft tissue treatment will help restore correct muscle tone and balance within the body by therapeutically lengthening the tense, short muscles. Some benefits of the treatment include reduction in pain, inflammation and muscle tension – while also preventing or breaking down scar tissue and improving joint mobility and lymphatic drainage.

No matter what symptoms you are experiencing, the corrective and therapeutic benefits of remedial massage will help relieve the pain associated with acute, chronic and repetitive injuries – such as persistent back ache, carpal tunnel syndrome, prolonged headaches, tennis elbow, tendonitis, muscle strain and so on. Specific therapeutic massage techniques can also assist the treatment of one-time injuries or problems that need special attention, by treating the root cause of your injury.

Sports massage

Sports massage is not merely a tool in assisting recovery from an injury or problem – it also helps prevent them in the future. Many people think sports massage is just for athletes and sports enthusiasts. In reality, this type of therapy has a number of physiological and psychological benefits – whether you are an athlete participating in sports regularly, someone who undertakes mild exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle or someone who is much less active.

Through this treatment, we can help alleviate your symptoms, as well as targeting the original source of the problem. This could lie in sporting technique or in repetitive everyday activities and may require an onward referral to other professionals such as physiotherapists or podiatrists for a definitive diagnosis. But, ultimately, the aim is to have regular maintenance sports massage treatments to help prevent recurrence of injuries – and to act as an early warning system for any potential injuries.

No matter what your age, activity level or lifestyle, sports massage can help improve your physical ability and should play an important part in your life. So remember, you don’t have to be an athlete to benefit from sports massage therapy!
